Ok, I thought it was funny & wanted to share this with everyone & see what they thought.

I spent 2-3 hours working on the Below Caricature Illustration, using a photo provided by the subject them self. In a nutshell, the subject said that the illustration looks absolutely NOTHING like the female depicted in the photo & was total amateurish trash.

At any rate, I discontinued working on it & canceled out the project. I will more than likely still use it in a future portfolio for Caricatures (Seeing that I "as the designer" own ALL copyrights to the vector design itself).

I am curious though, to get other opinions, How many of you think the Caricature illustration looks like the woman in the photo & how many think it's absolutely NOTHING like the woman & or Amateurish?

It looks like the person mostly. There are some improvements that could be made though, namely the sweater and her skin. Her skin looks like your exaggerated the wrinkles.

It does look like her. I think the nose is a little too big though...maybe it's just me.

It does resemble her, but especially around the chin some lines need to be either eliminated or broadened to an area of shadow like around the cheeks. Right now her caricature looks older than she does. Maybe change the colors a bit to better approximate her skin tone?

Imo, it looks vaguely like her. I agree about the wrinkles being exaggerated and her nose being a little too large than the actual girl's is. Besides that, i think it's done pretty well. (: Good job. You should see my attempts..

i think it's a pretty good job, BUT it makes her look a bit older and a bit fatter. i think making her looking fatter is where the unfounded "total amateurish trash" remark comes from

Updated it.. I would love to see some of the guys work that thinks mine is cheap & amateurish, I might be able to learn something from him. Though I don't see a post in the thread relating to the vote.

Hopefully he'll come back & help me out. ):

Because that's actually what her teeth look like in the photo.

The updated version, I got rid off most the defining lines in the face & gave her better teeth than she actually has in the photo. While it makes her look younger, it now looks Less like the photo than before

I think you did good job to capture the essence.

One should keep in mind that caricature is not suppose to look as real thing thus end result is a subject to artist's interpretation and permissible exaggeration

I think it looks pretty good, and it does look like her. I would definitely work on softening the shadows a bit, the hard edges don't do her justice and shadows and tones on the skin are never that hard-edged.

I think the shading on the face in the one on the left is better than the smooth-faced right one, but the shading needs to be more subtle and a little softer.

It's a WHOLE lot better than I could ever do.. lol. I've tried that sort of 'painting' .. you don't want to see the results.. LOL.

I will tell you now, I voted excellent before you modified with the new image on the right and now I would have to upgrade that vote.

For those who don't know a Caricature Illustration is not meant to to be a photographic image. It is what the illustrator saw when he drew the picture. Sometimes they flatter and most times they don't.

I think you did "good work" both times.

My 5 cents worth; because with the value of the $, 2 cents isn't enough anymore.

It really does look like her. It's also a rather impressive piece.

The illustration seems to have added 10lbs to her though.

Not bad at all. Its her loss that she has missed out on a professionally done caricature. I am sure that another few rounds of revisions wouldve satisfied most of her objections.

Just remember the golden rule of caricature: SIMPLIFY everything!

I think it looks like her but the teeth are very strange looking. They look like they were drawn with a very shakey hand. But otherwise it's a good caricature. I know that caricatures are supposed to exagerate the real face so I will not comment on the wrinkles and shading - it's true that's what it's supposed to look like. I like the one on the right better.
