(PSP can imitate "remove color", and I suspect that most non-basic [Paint et al] image programs can too. So I posted this here instead of in one of the sub sections.)

I tried out the "remove color" command in Photoshop Elements 2.0 last night. (Setting the hue to -180 and the saturation to -100 does the same thing.) "Remove color" gave me a slightly different result than "greyscale" did. So my question is, does one method give you a better representation of what the picture would have looked like if you had used black and white film instead of color film?

The mustard yellow color was darker in the "remove color" image than the "greyscale" image. I would have expected it to be that darker color, but shouldn't "greyscale" have produced that? Then again, is HSL (Hue Saturation Lightness) more the way B&W film would have seen the image, responding to varying degrees of light?

It's not really a big thing. I'm just wondering what the deal is.
