It would all depend on what "breaks" when opening on it another machine.
You are best getting the originator to save it back a few versions to maintain the fonts etc.
Do NOT trust (read pay) anyone who suggests it will be straightforward. Unless the originator has made the document transportable, there are all manner of things that can go awry.
