Do you think that the use of sexual appeal in graphics is appropriate? On all levels.. it doesn't have to be pictures of sexy women or men, what about using curves, lines, colors, sounds, etc to impliment the sexual subconciousness?

I know this is risque but I think it should be addressed....

I think that would depend upon what sort of audience you are targeting. If your gearing up towards all adults, that sort of subliminal usage would be fine. I'd be interested in seeing an example of this if you've worked one up already.

'Sex appeal' is used in advertising that's on billboards, in every magazine, cd/album covers, packaging, certainly on tv, and for nearly EVERY product on the market, you can't escape it.

I think this topic is very risky.. and if it even smells like it's going south, it's history. You have been warned.

Sounds like a great idea to me unless your site just flat out looks like sex objects

Whether or not your graphics look "sexy" I would think depends very much on the kind of product or service you are promoting.

More generally however, I think its undeniable (for better or worse) that images
of "good looking" people are more successful as promotional tools than people who look, well.....photogenically challenged.

I always try to use images of happy looking people, smiling and looking towards the camera..i.e. making eye contact with the user. I think there is some kind of hard wired human psychological benefit at play.

Yer.. See those pictures do have sex appeal. It all comes down to who you're advertising to. In this case these pics would appeal to gay men who love hairy brown guys in speedo's. So if you're selling speedos. Great. If not, well.. why the hell do you have a hairy brown guy in a speedo on your ad? So as stated before you need to know your target market. If you're selling car parts to middle aged men. Chances are they'd like seeing a sexy lady holding a muffler. It's just putting two of their favorite things together. In a sense many people in a subconcious level will think they're getting the sexy lady and the muffler. This is why people like seeing these sorts of things. It's not just cuz they want to get in the mood by looking at your ad. Hell, if that was the point they'd be too busy with their girlfriends, wives, or computer screens to even remember your ad. Another reason is because the human eye WILL be drawn to these sorts of things. Now wether what they're seeing draws them or pushes them away is another story. It's all for you to decide, manipulate, and implement in the end.
