There's another way using Kuler from adobe Labs - kuler.adobe.com
Go to 'create', then you can upload your own image and it will make a color palette from it.

if you have photoshop, you can use the eyedropper like everyone is saying. there is also another software that i use that's awesome, http://www.colorschemer.com/
