Umm...
It looks a little 80's ish. Browse around www.thebestdesigns.com and you'll get an idea of modern styles for sites.

I would use less "glowing" around the text areas, it's a little hard to read.
I am not saying I am great at design, this is just a little hard on the eyes in general in my opinion. You can go to www.colorbleneder.com (or other similar) to see which colors compliment each other better.

Hey there,
It's always good to see other people moving towards web design, as racer x said above, you should really browse other websites and get an idea for what good web design is, you need to be very mindful of colour schemes and layouts, that said, you're better than I was when I first started out..... oh, those where the days!

(now I feel old!)

Hi The guys are right,
Look at the pro's and get inspiration from there.
Clear concise and stick with the principles, like menu on top of top left..

I think you at least have a basic foundation on web design, which is very important.
However, if I am guessing correctly, it seems to me that this website is for a business?
If it is, then it should look more professional. Smooth lines and a clean color palette.
Best of wishes in your designs!

I think you have a starting off point. What you truly want to make is a solution a client will accept and feel special for accepting. It may be your sketch you provided, but it seems a little unrefined and standard. If you are trying to sell your webdesign company via a webpage, knock their socks off.

I recommend using the 960 grid system, which is an excellent foundation for planning a website.

Have you considered multiple columns to break that traditional look?

Good luck!
