hi, im new to photoshop and it looks like the possibilities are endless, i was wondering if i have to know how to "do it all" or can i just get a client and then look up a tutorial on how to create that specific thing in photoshop? im having a hard time knowing what i need to know in order to be proficient in the graphic aspect of web design. any help or advice greatly appreciated. thank you. derek

No you don't have to know it all in Photoshop, I have been working with Corel PSP for years, I am still learning the software and Photoshop has a lot more to offer then PSP. I am able to do most of Photoshop tutorials until I find I don't have that tool for different effects, etc.

My advice Derek would be to play with the software a little time each day to get the feel of it, what the capabilities are. Use the tutorials as reference when you get stuck. There are numerous free plugins for Photoshop to even further your graphic design.

I've been using Photoshop since PS3 and I STILL don't 'know it all' !!!!

I've had PS for about a year and I am learning a bit every day. Set yourself some silly tasks and see how you go. For example, the other day I decided to make a picture of father christmas sitting at a breakfast table in his pyjamas, nicked some suitable photos off google images and had a play around.

I get by just googling a tutorial on whatever I need - and the more you learn the more questions you'll have, so beware!

Photoshop is really just a tool and the possibilites of creation with it are endless. I have been using photoshop for 5 years and I am still learning new things

Like LadynRed said, I learn something new just about everytime I use it. Usually the hard way because the built in help files are pathetic. Google works better for finding the answers.

I seriously doubt that that I will ever achieve "expert mode".

Photoshop is strange software; I am working on it still now I don't know every thing of Photoshop. Some times I used some tutorial.
