I hope our members could enlighten me. I was told that the size of image for the internet should not be exceeded to more than 35kb for faster downloading performance. Do you have suggestion or explanation in the best size of banner for a site?

While you don't want to use huge images, 35k for images in these days of DSL and Cable isn't really the 'gold standard' that it used to be. However, if your target audience is still largely stuck with dial-up, then you want to keep images as small as you can.

Very true. Just make your images more smaller than 35k if you can. People all over the world are not always using a dsl or cable internet. If you are using photoshop in resizing your images, try to use the "Save For Web" option when saving your images.

although 35k would be a a good target if you have other photos on that first page. i usually keep it anything below 50k - but always as small as possible balanced with how high quality it needs to be

You are right. But 35k images are just small ones and there are times that the quality really suffered. I agree to davemies, you can try using graphics that's below 50k so that you can retain it's quality. But if you have larger and high quality photos, try to use thumbnails instead.

Just about any image can be that small even with a transparency if you save all your graphics for web as a ".png" file.

I designed my website in an Illustrator ".pdf" and converted every image to a ".png" for smaller size. I just need to get the programmer to put it online for me now.

are you talking about 8-bit png?? they aren't much smaller than gifs - maybe around 10-20%. if you're talking about 32 bit pngs then they are going to be significantly larger than jpegs in almost every case.
