I just recently created a new website, Tech Tips "For everyday Users" and I have been playing around with a logo for it. Which I am not doing a good job of. You're on the right track, just work with the graphics program some more and be more enthused about your work. By doing what I said, you will find more confidence in creating something you will be satisfied with.

Not bad. I suggest that you lessen the bevel/emboss. Also, try to combine different kinds of color that could best suit your theme or template.
