Color changes when saved for web

I have some images that I need for my website, and when I try to save them for web the are washed out...changing from one file type to another doesn't seem to yield any positive results. If I save as (normally) the colors remain vibrant, but the images are still subject to the browser's interpretation. (I think it does fine in safari- not in firefox and I haven't tried IE yet) Is there any way to save for web and/or insure bright, accurate, vibrant colors?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you're going to get some color shifting, and there's not a whole lot you can do about it, some, but not much:

Yep. That's the way it goes.

That's why layout, especially whitespace is so important.

And that's probably why people concerned about aesthetics flock to flash.

Silverlight is another avenue, but fews sites have been developed with that technology, not to mention the PITA plugin you have to download and the fact that it's a microsoft exclusive product.

Otherwise, you get the washed out colors.

I'll wager that this light blue background looked vibrant during the design phase of this site.

I have pictures for my website . However, finding different colors become hard, as it is not necessary that you get the desired combination . With the color picker you can select the color from anywhere your desktop and make as many selections as you want. Drag and apply the colors wherever you want and save it as sample. Make it lighter or darken it up, set the level of saturation, and make any color web safe.

Interesting...I have yet to fully look into this problem. I'll let you know what I discover when I read up on it. I am hoping I can make it at least slightly better. And I had thought that web-safe colors were a think of the past- If only.

Basically they are. Gone are the days of monitors that can only display 256 colors, now we're up to millions of colors. You aren't ever going to get any color to look exactly the same on all monitors, no many how many colors your monitor is capable of displaying.
