Hi there... I made a logo for my next big project, and I feel I did a pretty good job on it... however, I have one issue... the edges around the curves are a little bit choppy (pixelated). It looks find in the image editor, but when put on the actual site, it looks pretty choppy around the edges... anyways here it is <flite.jamwil.com> and the actual logo is here <header.gif> If somebody could give me a few tips as to how to fix this, that would be wonderful! thank-you very much!

That's because it's a transparent gif! You can't dither the edges of a transparent gif, so the pixels will always been extremely noticible. The only thing you can do is not make the image a transparency and just placing it on the header's background image. Combine the two images and it won't be jagged anymore.

If the site is white, easiest way is to save as a .jpg, youll loose the raggedy edges and the file size for this might even be smaller! Nice wee image tho!

Cheers, scotia

Any time I make a curved logo I always use 300 pixels per inch in a jpg. Sometimes I use a drop shadow also.

I've found that a 300 pixel jpg does not increase the size of the logo significantly.

Try it - you may like the results - - If not it only cost you 20 minutes to try.

If you're actually sure you want to use an image for that, and you really don't need to, and you want transparency, etc., use a transparent PNG. PNG's rule. Don't deny it. JPEGs are really bad for solid blocks of color, so I don't suggest that.

"very poor logo" I second that, not to mention it is "Required" not "Recquired"

johnj "I always use 300 pixels per inch in a jpg" it makes no difference. one pixel is one pixel on screen. 72ppi and 300ppi will look identical.

ikrari - don't forget that IE has no natice support for alpha transparency and you would need to use a hack for it to work.

best bet is combine the images and don't forget the antialiasing on the text!

The answer is "ANTI-ALAIS"
Your logo doesn't have anti-alaising

Please read my short artilcle on this at:

http://www.christart.com/clipart/

Begin reading at "Why 15 Colors"

This should explain what is happening.

You've been given alot of bad advise above.
1. It transperent: An image can be both transperent and have anti-alaising
2. Use a drop shadow. If they are saving their image with-out anti-alasing then they will have a choppy drop shaddw too.
3. Use jpg. Since your logo a (gif image) is on top of a jpg image (the blue silk) you could combine the two making the logo part of the background jpg image.
BUT
While jgps are wonderful for silk like images with alot of variance of color they are TERRIBLE on images with large blocks of color like your logo. The only way for a jpg to display your logo crisply is to turn off all or most of the compression. This will leave you with a very large file size.

SOLUTION:
Save the image with transperant edges (like you aready are doing) and also use blue anti-alaising. Pick a medium color from the silk blue background. The anti-alaising will make the logo smooth and the blue will make the image blend into the background.

the answer anti-alisaing was given by spaceman and then by me as well

using fireworks you can achive sharp text as a background with the sharpen text feauture in the jpeg options - although not as good as gif text it is better than normal jpeg text. i agree you will need little compression to maintain good looking text.
