Right now I currently have an HP Laptop. Runs great, but gets a little sluggish when working in Photoshop, Illustrator, and other programs. What computer do you use, and does it get all retarted when dealing with graphics? Would like to get a nice desktop.

Adobe design products require scratchdisk access. If the scratchdisk is on the same hdd as the os/app = bad performance. Configure photoshop/illustrator to use another drive for the scratchdisk.

OS/App hdd. Consider upgrading the laptop to use a SSD drive for the os/apps instead of platters if poss. BIG performance gains there.

Many laptops have onboard graphics cards (for obvious reasons). Dedicated graphics cards help reduce load on the cpu.

RAM. If you're running vista - 4gig minimum, anything less is protracted suicide.

Dell is kind of high, also if you need to upgrade or fix something you have to send it back to Dell instead of any other pc shops. Go for a Gateway or Sony Vaio with the highest graphic card avaible and at least a 250 gb hard drive. and also try to get the intel 2 duo core processor for fast gaming, surfing, and multi tasking. Good Luck!!!

Personally I sya, go build it yourself desktop pc route

Laptops aren't really ideal for graphic performance as they don't really support a reliable colling system, I have experienced many times, about to click the save button just as the laptops safety function kicks in and turns my laptop off before it overheats, the chance of that happing with a desktop is less likely as they have larger fans / cooling systems
and the other Plus is that if you build it yourself, you have almost total freedom as to what you put in it and it costs less than a pre-built one

meaning you can load mac os onto a pc or even dual boot pc and windows or linux infact, why not have all 3?

Buying a best computer is easy, but you must know the configuration like RAM, hard-disk, motherboard, etc. I think you should buy a assemble computer with high configuration.

3 GB RAM is more than enough, go with a quad-core, they got so cheap these days. However check your motherboard to be compatible...

I agree with this. Mac are designed for graphic and media editing. But if you are not into Mac. Desktop would right way to go rather than portable computers. If you will be using this for business, I suggest that you invest on high end systems.

There are so many computer processors around, like celeron, dual core, AMD etc.

But i don't know which is best. I think that Celeron is old technology and it's better to choose another processor.

I basically want a processor which will handle all aspects of a computer, basically everything a computer does, but i want it to be able to handle everyday tasks without any problems. Such as watching videos, playing games, and running multiple applications simultaneously without any problems.

Whatever you do DON'T BUY ANOTHER HP! 3gigs should be enough unless you're making massive sized files upwards of 40-50 plus mb's.
I bought 2 HP's in the last year and a half 1-pc the other a laptop. BOTH had hardware issues from day 1. They wont fix the pc - which completely broke down 2 months after warranty ran out....and the laptop they're saying I have to send it in to them and I refuse to do that because who knows how long it will take and what they will screw up. They refused to let me bring it in to a certified HP technician located right down the street from my house because then they will have to pay for it. Lousy customer service and poor products. DON'T TRUST THEM.
