Hello, glad I found this forum I did not see a Windows 7 forum on the site so I hope this is a good landing place for this question. How do you view PSP images in Windows 7 OS? Here is a screenshot of a folder view in My Pictures. In my old XP computer, I could see the actual PSP or Adobe Photoshop images as a thumbnail. I am using Irfanview as my gif viewer(is there something better?) and these images do not show either. Only if I save them as jpegs or gifs will the image show. Of course, I want to keep everything as a raw tube with no background and still be able to view them in Windows. I have played with the file associations but can't bring up the actual image in tube format. I am using PSP 9 and will upgrade as soon as I get use to Windows 7. Thank you for all your good info here..... You guys rock!

ps. I have not downloaded Adobe Photoshop as yet to this computer.

Hello Raelene,

I could be way off here because I am not running Windows 7, I am still running XP. Did you open windows up and check for viewing, such Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, Lists, etc., and made sure Thumbnails were checked? Also in your PSP 9, Preference

Here are screenshots. Can't understand why it doesn't show the image instead of the PSP icon?? The view choices(far right top screen in Win7 sorry....cropped out) shows large, medium and small icons as well as tiles, lists, detailed lists, etc. Thumbnails is not a choice in Windows 7. I am sure it has something to with file associations but not sure what?? I use Windows Explorer alot to ready what I am going to take into PSP. I have the same problem(viewing) with text files vs. document files in Windows 7.

FYI....the browser in PSP 9 is fine(not pictured). It views any and all files in the PSP browser window. I miss Windows XP. I can't not figure Windows 7 out easily.

In your PSP 9, far top left, File, open up your Preferences, look for File Format Associations, select all file extensions and click OK.

Eventually I am going to purchase Windows 7, so this will be helpful information for me. I do see the two graphics being displayed, one a png, the other a psp image, if two are being displayed, the others should be displaying also, maybe someone else can help you and I will be interested as well.

Windows 7 (and Vista)

Tools -> Folder Options

In Advanced Setting -> Uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

And in Windows 7 it is labelled "Content" rather than "thumbnails"

PSP images show just fine in PSP 9 Program.

Already unchecked as default. ?? When I check it, everything goes to Irfanview icons including all jpegs and gifs. I will keep looking for a way to view these.
I need to find someone who use graphics programs on a regular basis AND have Windows 7 OS. There are not very many people who do both as yet. What a head scratcher!! Here's a thank you name tag for Giselle.

Raelene the tag is adorable, I saved it, thank you so much, I needed that today!

I sure wish I could help you, but I can't seeing as I am running Windows XP, there has to be a way seeing as two images do show up and the others don't.

Thank you again for that adorable tag!

Best Wishes,
Giselle

Could not find Chrishirst's way easily at first so tagged this screenshot. Good info for Windows 7 users. The way I found the Folder Options was through the Start Key>Search programs and files..... It's not a top menu item in Windows 7 Explorer. Or at least mine 7 Explorer is not set up that way. I keep my screen in Windows Classic but gave ithese shots a theme(Fancy Aero Peek theme-blaaghh!) here to make sure I'm not missing any menus.

This shot is a mute point as I found the Folder Options through his instructions. See Start Key(Search programs and files) will bring it right up.

Still looking for a way to view PSP Tubes in Windows 7. I will take this into a PSP Group and post the question. I will post back with what I find. May be a few days...busy.

Please do post back with the instructions Raelene, greatly appreciated, I shall copy and paste the instructions for myself, as I use this function especially when uploading files. I also keep my screen set in Windows Classic in XP.

Someone is in the Christmas Spirit!!!! I called my husband to show the tag you sent me, my husband said it was darn cute! Thanks again!

Hello again everyone, I found this explanation in the Windows Seven Forum. I will add a link to the entire thread.

"What I have found is that Windows 7 does not render a number of image formats as well as XP did. One instance is that it does not show animated gifs. There is a long thread on this subject here on this Forum. The same is true for some of the PSP formats of which there are many. One of the images that Anita sent me had the file extension PSP but it had been saved under the "PSP Animation Shop" format. The other one had been saved as a "PSPimage" That's the actual file extension. One would think that just changing that extension to .PSP should solve the problem but it does not. Win 7 WE does not recognise the thumbnail content. It only recognises and shows the thumnails of files saved with the choice under the save as drop down window "PSPIMAGE" but you need to manually insert ".PSP" and not let is save as a file extension of ".PSPIMAGE"
I have tried the batch conversion facility in Irfanview but this does not solve the problem. I think the resave must be done in Photoshop Pro. I see that there is a batch conversion facility there but haven't had a chance to try that. I think the answer is to resave each individual image when they are downloaded. So regretably the soltion is a bit long winded but I can't see an alternative. I suppose a Win 7 patch might be a possibilty but I reckon we will have to wait for Win 8 to see if that solves it." By Mitchell65 in the Windows Seven Forum......this moderator investigated this question for days. God Bless all the folks that help us out here! Thank You!

Here is the link:

I also found a PSP Thumbnail Handler program and will post that link in a seperate post below.

I posted my original question 'How to view PSP images in 7 Explorer in several, several other forums. I started with Windows 7 OS forums thinking they could help first. Then posted into my paint groups. Here is a PSP Thumbnail converter program posted by one of my paint groups. I still have some questions on it but it does, at least, show the psp image in Windows 7 Explorer.....Yea! If anything large about my questions come up, I will be sure and post back.

"Hi! Have you tried installing Thumbnailviewer from here:

http://www.botproduc...humb/index.html

The preview of psp images showed in my windows explorer after installing thumbnailviewer. However, when you click on the Download link, makesure you get the correct download file, depending on whether your windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit. If you are not certain as to whether your windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit, click Start>right-click Computer, choose Properties."

I downloaded this 64-bit program and after playing with it for a bit, it is working wonderfully in Windows 7 Explorer and shows the psp image. For some reason, if the image has the small psp icon in lower right corner, it will not show in the preview pane to the right of screen. However, a sidebar...... I will keep the preview pane active as it shows what is written in text documents and that's handy. Yea!
