I realize it varies greatly but can you give me an estimate on how much I should charge for a logo? I have a client who is an individual who wants a logo for a new business consulting website. Should I give him a per hour rate or a set price? What is an average per hour rate to an individual (not a big company)

The price range should above $50 and below $100 for logo design with two unique logo concepts

I charge £200 and always offer 6 examples after initial briefing with as many amendments the client requires thereafter. The average logo is completed within 48-72 hours but could sometimes take less than an hour so not worth charging hourly unless he/she is a mate.

As you can see you can get a professional logo from 200-400$.
Anything between 100-200$ is fine too.

I suggest $100 as a starting point. Obviously if you are doing a lot of intricate work you might want to charge a bit more!

To be honest it really depends on your skill level. I mean, If you research a bit using google and check out different Logo Services you'll notice some start as low as $5 & others are as high as $2,000.00. The reason for such a wide range of pricing is based on how many years the designer has been doing it, the current skill level the designer has, the current understanding of the industry, Copyright / trademark knowledge, Time vested into researching a business and it's competitors, ability to provide pure 100% vector files with NO rasters embedded, How strong of a brand presence you have yourself, Etc...

As you can see above there are many factors involved when setting your price. So, without more information about you, your background, procedure, etc. it's impossible to tell you an exact amount to charge YOUR clients.

I suggest doing some more research on your own competitors, just like you should be doing for your clients...

I think you should visit Elance, Guru, iFreelancer or similar, these give you good idea what to quote to your clients. I suggest USD 50 is good enough for logo. I again say make research before quote anything.

50 dollars is no-where near enough if you are expecting pro/original work from the designer..
Then again, I totally agree with scorpionagency.

100$ - 200$ is the Range which is OK for a LOGO design.

I think it all depends on how you value your time I would charge between £50 up to £250 depending on the complexity of the logo that they described and also how much time I think I will spend designing the logo.

I would base your price depending on the time and difficulty of making the logo.

It does depend on a variety of things - complexity of logo, number of different variations you'll be doing for the client, etc. Personally, I start at $100 and have gone up to $300.

It should depend what kind of logo the client wants and how quickly he needs the work to be done.The Average price should be 40$-60$ according to me.Some might throw +250$

Its depend on the situation that what type of currency your client should pay you for logo normally in US $ the price range of logo is more then 50 to 60 $ at each logo with free 2 or 3 logo design concept by differents designers.

Wow.. You guys charge very low for Logos... I charge by the hour for all graphics designs. For logos, I offer a 2 hour concept package. Basically the client pays for 2 hours of work. I create as many concepts as I can (not focusing on a finished job) for the 2 hours.

When I present those concepts to the client, he/she can tell me the one they like best. I also invite them to tell me if they like certain style of any of the other concepts.

This way I know which direction I will be going. Then I focus on combining all that they like (if possible) into one logo, but in black and white. This usually take another 1 to 1½ hour. Then I make another presentation to the client. Only this time, add a few suggested swatches. Each swatch is a group of 2-4 colours and the client can choose which set they like best.

From there I work in the colours and to complete the artwork, I send a package with the logo in different formats and colours for different types of outputting.

I like charging by the hour. It helps to prodect us from clients who can't make up their mind. And for the one who really knows what they want, it works out cheaper for them. They get what they want and they feel like they were a part of the designing process. It a win win situation.
