Any of you know of a SWF to AVI converter that doesn't butcher the frame rate or audio sync? I've tried a few so far, trying to convert a Flash animation to put on YouTube, but so far I haven't come up with worthy results.

Have you tried Format Factory?

Just did. It gave me a "Failed to decode" error every time.
Edit: Also had some Hamster decoder recommended, but it turns out the free hamster shredder doesn't support the .swf format to convert from. Blast. And the first one I tried, that butchered the frames and audio was made by iWiSoft.

Also, I should specify that I know Flash itself will export both to AVI and MOV (QuickTime) but on my computer at least it freezes up when attempting to do so, hence the search for an outside utility.
What I may do is try again on the school comps, maybe they have a bit more OOMPH than the home setup, which is admittedly a bit dated.

I've actually tried all of those. None of them worked. And I'm just not willing to pay $60-$120 for something that I'll likely use once and doesn't do the job to the level I'd actually be willing to pay it. But I appreciate you looking, thank you.
So, it would appear there aren't any aftermarket things that will do the job well (and since Flash is on the way out anyway, don't waste your money). And Flash itself does a horrid job of exporting. It chopped the AVI to bits and only displayed the first frame of any imported clips. The Quicktime export stretched the frames to nearly double the time of the original, so of course was abysmally out of sync with the sound. In either case, worse than useless. Guess Adobe never fixed those problems when they took over Macromedia, just put a few bells and whistles on a product that's needed fixing, not prettying up, for a rather long time.
What I decided to do was export the SWF without sound, with every frame a keyframe and the frame rate reduced to AfterEffects, bring the frame rate back up on import and put the sound back in using the master rather than from the SWF. Still tinkering with it but I believe that's the solution.
Sucks there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it, but oh, well, I'm not going to be doing much more with Flash, if anything, anyway.

How come Flash is on its way out? What's the new thing?
I'm still trying to make the perfect animation!!! I have a banner I made for a SURVIVOR fan site wanna see it? but its messed up because it was too big and I kept trying to make it smaller by taking out layers but wound up creating about 5 different versions and none of them were small enough. (I don't mean dimensions I mean weight. the gif is about 10mb) On top of that I screwed up the animation sequence....ah me I should know better to leave well enough alone....
I'm sorry this isn't going to work for you. If you went through the gauntlet of apps - then you must have put some serious time in this one thing. you must be frustrated...... I think your doing the right thing because who knows if the paid app is going to work either? Why didn't your professor know about this and give you a heads up?
btw Boo is still hanging in there.....for now

HTML5 and Javascript-based animation software. Adobe just sent me an invite to try out Edge, which apparently they hope will keep their base of Flash users. Other companies have dropped support for flash, most notably Microsoft when its next OS comes out.

A ten meg gif? Holy packing pixels where the sun don't shine Batman! My entire 2 minute swf was 1.4 meg optimized.

Because he was teaching a Flash class, and converting the stuff wasn't part of that. I have asked him if he has resources I can look at for using AfterEffects. Graphic design majors don't have that in their curriculum, but I'd still like to be able to do more with it.

yep - it started out at 29mb! Like I said it was too big for the site so I kept taking out layers and renaming the file then I would go back in and try to fix what I screwed up so I wound up with 5 different versions and they were all still too big and I didn't really fix any of them completely. someday.....

Just search "[SPAM] swf to video converter" in google.

I bet you do have it on your computer since you're spamming it in your sig. Yeah, actually I did try it. (Really, that's honestly one of the ones I tried!) It's crap, and nowhere near worth the astronomical price charged for it.

Look at what you're putting into the animations and optimize them for web and devices through PS before you import them. That will take the file size down significantly.

Oh yes I usually do that anyway. I can't say for sure I remembered to that on all of them in this ani but I'm sure most of them were. I think the main problem was it just had so many things going on at once. I did find a small one when I looking at them the other day. I'll see if I can post it here.....

Convert SWF to AVI can always maintain original video and audio quality. You can convert SWF to MPEG, FLV, MP4, iPod video, iPhone video, 3GP video, PSP movie, Apple TV video, MOV, etc.

Can this thread be closed? Seems it's only attracting spammers like the one above to it now. Shameless obfuscated link dropping for a dubious product. With a high price tag no less.

No it can't. Neither can that other one that was just spammed onto this thread.
There aren't any good ones out there, period. I used Adobe AfterEffects to do the job. That's posted above, by the way. Please read the thread before you spam your garbage products. Thanks.
