You cannot "stretch" jpegs it is already a "lossy" format. so attempting to enlarge it will result in image degredation.

the attached image is already 680 px wide and is 613px high so resizing to 220 will completely destroy the aspect ratio. To keep the image "looking right" at 680x220 it will need an original of ~1900 x 620 to maintain the aspect ratio.

Hello thedude-tpm,

The photograph is beautiful, I can't think of any graphic software able to reduce the size to 220 without distorting the photograph tremendously. To go from 613 to 513 could work, but that's a large jump from 613 down to 220.

Resize the image to 220, keeping the aspect ratio, put it to the left of your header and use a background color for the rest that works well with the other colors in the image. Then fade a bit of the right side of the photo to break up the hard line. 'Cause if you stretch it in any way it's going to look really strange.

That's a great idea Tim mentioned! Unfortunately I know that wasn't what you were looking for.

Here is an attachment, the original photograph was 1024 x 768, there is no distortion whatsoever. If I unlocked the aspect radio and went 220 all the way around, the little girls were distorted. Let us know what you come up with.....

I was thinking he would have to make the whole picture smaller too. I had a few other thoughts. He could change the height of the banner - I mean what's locking it into a height of 220px? You would still have to make the picture smaller but it might help to make the banner height 320-420 pixels? if there are other elements in the banner you could adjust those too - it's not impossible unless you've got something else in there that can't be enlarged. Even if you can't enlarge the other items you could always add or just keep the space free there is nothing wrong with leaving empty space if its done right.

Another option is if you're able to blend it in with the other content on the page and the color as well you could keep the height the same on the pictue and place it on top of banner then fade it back to about 25% - blend it into the page as part of the design. make adjustments with the other elements and content
