Use css to position your slices. I know some - if not all - graphivsv programs give you an option to export your slices in css although it usually causes problems. I usually use several wrappers and have the slices set as the background. It would take to long for me to explain but if you dont know much about CSS check out http://www.w3schools.com and also it might be a good idea to buy a book.

Hope that helps?

well if your slicing it in photoshop and you export it for the web, i dont think you have a choice as to whether or not to use a table; it always has a table. i dont exactly understand your question, so i cant help you too much.
