I have lots of digital photographs. Many more black and white paper type photographs with several hundred 35 mm colour slides and I would like to get them onto DVDs.
I am allright with a scanner and know how to use a DVD burner but I want a simple to use software that I can place captions on the photographs possible by copying the title which I saved the digital photograph in and then pasting as a caption as I can't spell and I do not want to make mistakes.
I use a Canon EOS 300D but the software does not seem to lend itself to what I want to do and I can not open the Help File on the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 that was bundled with my computer.

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Adobe Photoshop Album is very good for organising large numbers of photos. It does do basic photo-editing but I'm not sure about captions. However, it will allow you to put them on a DVD (no other software required!).

Otherwise, I would probably recommend Elements (which I know doesn't help you).

Sorry I couldn't be more useful! Cheers.

You have probably been advised this before but the problem you have with PS Element's help files has occured because the path set by the installation somehow went wrong. Two ways to solve this are go to my computer - c drive or the drive letter that represents your hard drive- program files- adobe - photoshop elements and see if you can locate your help files there. If you can find them you will be able to open the help files from there by clicking on the icon.

The best thing to do would be to uninstall and re-install the software. Remember to choose the 'typical' installation when re-installing the software.

Take a look at the above tutorial link and see if it helps.

If you need more advice send me a personal message and perhaps I could send you some video workshops for Photoshop.

XnView can do this for you. It's a free (I think open-source) program that I use and like alot, you can download it here: http://www.xnview.com.
  1. Select the pictures you want in XnView in thumbnail mode,
  2. right-click,
  3. select "batch-convert" (Ctrl-U),
  4. write in where you want to creat the files and in what format in the "output" section of the "general" tab,
  5. select the "transformations" tab,
  6. select "Add Text,"
  7. click the "add" button
  8. click the double-arrow button next to "parameters,"
  9. select "filename,"
  10. fiddle around with the text colour, font, and postion,
  11. click "Go" and bada-boum, all your pictures have are captioned with their file-name.

I dont know why everyone is recommending Elements to a newbie at graphics design, when it is pretty expensive and much more difficult to learn in.. I recommend Corel PaintShop Pro if you are new to the graphics design world. I think the new one comes with Corel PhotoAlbum 6 as well. It is very easy to learn in PSP.
