Hello --

I was wondering if anyone could help me, on my site http://www.collaborativeproject.org at top I have a fairly large and detailed header image, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to reduce the file size without losing much quality of the image. It is currently in a .png format, which I am not too familiar with. Would it be better to move to .jpg or .gif or something.

I have been using Adobe 6.0

Any help would be greatly appretiated

i usually export my *.png as *.jpg. in photoshop 7.0 there is a special function - save for web, so you can adjust image as you want. isn't there a same function in 6.0?

I have reduced it from 174kb to 34kb and converted it to a jpeg. You could possibly take it down a little further but risk losing image quality.

Btw: I personally use Image Optimizer from
www.xat.com . It works wonders with images, and not just for resizing.

Cheers

png should usually optimise well just make sure you don't use 24 bit png. I find that with normal graphics that I create png works best but for photos due to the way files are saved jpg is better.
