Hi remsteen,

you haven't said which graphics application you are using, but you can do this in fireworks:

- select the object you want to fade
- click Commands > Creative > Fade Image, and select the appropriate method

make a new layer below the image, create a gradient (one that fades to transparent)

then click on your image layer and press ctrl alt g to make it into a clipping mask

there are several ways to do this, but with this method you can vary your results by modifying the gradient

You could also just add a mask to the layer and apply the black to white gradient to the mask - no extra layers required.

you can add a layer mask to your image you want to fade, then get a transparent black fade, and fade where you wan tto fade it, or you can make a selection, and feather it, this can also create a fade but in different type of position form, where grsdient comes out more in a line, and a selection you can make with a pen tool well be able to transform any shape of fade

Or, you can double click it in your layer window and click 'gradient overlay' and work on the opacity a little.
