Slices in ImageReady when saved in html mess up

Hey all

I've bought a template which came as a sliced .psd file. I've changed the pictures for each "page" I wanted to create and named the new .psd file created accordingly. I.e. "Index.psd" --> "index.html"

Now when I hit "save optimized as" the first html file that's saved, say, "index.html" looks just fine when previewed in a browser. Now when I open the next .psd file that I want to convert to html and I do "save optimized as" that file comes out fine as well, *but* it messes with my previously saved html file. Like the graphics mangle up and it replaces some parts of the first file, i.e lets say I've done saved optimized as "about.psd" -->"about.html". The "about.html", when viewed in a browser, looks fine BUT if I then look at "index.html" it is changed and contains elements of "about.psd"

I've been trying to figure out this problem for 2 days now and it's driving me nuts!

It sounds like you're using slices with the same name for both index.html and about.html, and saving the slices to the same directory (usually, it's the "images" directory).

My suggestion would be to do one of two things:

1) Save your page images in different directories for each page (which will KILL you from an organizational point of view).

2) Rename your common slices in one of the PSDs.

Side note: you should try not to use the ImageReady output code. It's horrible. Slicing is okay, but the code itself is bad.

Adam, indeed! I've renamed the slices which worked like a charm.

Thanks a lot !

PS if I dont use Imageready to output the html code, what should I use instead ? I'm using frontpage (I know you'll all **** me to hell for that) but I just need to throw this site together and dont really have the time or money to buy dreamweaver or the other one (fireworks?)

So if I'm stiching the site together how do I proceed?

thanks again

Umm... NOTEPAD ?? Better to learn to code it by hand than use the antiquated messy code spit out by some software like ImageReady... or even FP, DW or FW !.

You don't need DW either, Notepad or some other text editor will do very nicely.

I prefer to use dreamweaver, I just spent the night finally getting dreamweaver to work on my linux laptop...now how I use it though, is a different story. I code everything by hand and I like that dreamweaver nicely indents everything and color coordinates my tags. If you don't have the money though, notepad is a perfectly fine replacement, or some other html editors that make workflow easy.

http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html <--- that's a good free text editor for those who like colour coded HTML and still want to code by hand (as I do).

Do yourself a favour and don't just throw your site up quickly. The extra time you spend to code it by hand and do it properly will more than pay off in the long run. I'm not trying to lecture you, but I'm just trying to point out that if you're going to do it, you may as well do it right from the get-go and not have to rework everything.
