I needed to download an image from my web site and when I viewed it.the image was "all jumbled" up....colors, etc didn't even look like the image. I suspect it has something to do with the transfer mode.

Question: When uploading or downloading images via ftp, can anyone tell me what "transfer mode" is correct? Does it make any difference......I see ASCII, local, auto, binary and don't which to use, or if it makes a difference. My image files are either jpg, or gif

Thanks!

which ftp client do you use? I use Smartftp, and downloading via binary, ascii or auto works just fine. I tried with all 3 modes and it worked alright for me. Maybe it's your picture or maybe your program.

I have ace ftp 2.0

I know the pictures are OK because they are on a web site and when viewed on the net (via URL) all look great.

Maybe I'll try downloading them with each method and see....

Thanks for the suggestion

You have to download images in binary mode. Sometimes auto works, but it's just safer to always use binary for images. For HTML/PHP/ASP/Any other code, use ASCII.
