I would like to have my own personal website for my family to store our photos. I dont really want to just use photobucket or somewhere like that. Id like my own site. Id like to be able to asign access to "members" and I can choose who can see what pictures, etc... Dont necessarly want my mom seeing my new years eve party pictures, but do want her to see kids, etc...

Im not super picky on the "style" of the site, but looking for suggestions. Id like to be able to have multiple gallerys from kids, christmas, new years, etc etc...

Most all my pictures on my HD are huge 6mp photos which are going to take a LONG time to upload, any advice on that?

I guess I dont really know exactly what Im looking for, but would know it if I saw it... Can someone please help me out, im willing to pay for your services but dont want to pay a whole lot for this...

Sounds like a $20 project. Unfortanitly; we can design you a website, but most of us can't code you what you asked for. Thats a lot of PHP. If you go through me; I'll design you the site for like $5-10 and refer you to some people that work reliably and cheap with PHP who can code it and do what you want.

First you would need to get a hosting service. Like I said I use webhost4life but research and find the best price/features for you. After you secure hosting you would need to purchase a domain name, you can usually do that through your hosting service and is generally only 9.00 for a year.

Once you have your hosting service and domain you can actually start building your site, when you get your hosting service you need to make sure they host .net applications and more specifically DotNetNuke (commonly known as DNN). The hosting company will have a control panel for you to install DNN automatically or directions on how to manually do it yourself.

Once DNN is intalled you can start customizing it with Skins and Modules. Skins are the look and feel of a website and modules are small web programs that do stuff. If your a developer you can write your won DNN modules or you can buy them from www.snowcovered.com for most people the only module you will need to purchase is a Photo Gallery module. The rest of the builtin in modules are quite robust. A skin can be purchased at www.snowcovered.com as well or again you can create your own, there are tutorials on how to accomplish this just google it.

I can do all this for you but I am not cheap and don't normally maintain personal sites for people because of how often they want to change them. I would be more than happy to help you if you get stuck anywhere. And I could also do a "class" at my house to show you some tips and tricks. Good Luck.

00Bolt, there are free softwares that you can get online for photo album sites. Coppermine is one of these. Once you know what software you are using you can search the web for themes or skins for it. Then you can post a contest here for a logo, custom buttons or other graphics to dress up your theme.

Most available softwares have their own forums to help you get started and customize your site.

00Bolt - As far as the size of your pictures (6mb), you are going to want to open them up in some kind of editor (you should have received something with your camera purchase) and shrink them down some. A 6mb picture is going to take over most computer screens and take forever to download. You will want to shrink them down litterally and in the size of the file. Optimize them for the web. Most (if not all) computer screens only handle a 72dpi resolution.

There are also some online image resizing scripts. I searched these out for a freiend who new nothing about computers and images. We tried a couple of them which baasically let you upload your image, set the size and download the result. I found the quality to be pretty good too.
