I am not sure whether I am posting in a right forum. I am looking for a open source/free software/way to convert a powerpoint file to graphics file. There is a way to convert the PPT slides to Image formats by File -> Save As. But the quality is not so good. So, I am looking for alternatives.

Please suggest me.

I was looking for the same exact thing last night, to help me convert Powerpoint slides to PDF format for my online-etraining.com site. I found a tool called PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com/) which the authors now offer for free. It worked great, and converted all my powerpoint images as well.

It installs itself as a printer, so you print to it from within Powerpoint and it saves the PDF file to your hard drive.

Is it free to use for commercial purpose too?

Their license does not allow you to distribute or sell it, but other than that it appears to be usable for commercial purposes (such as making your commercial documents available in pdf format).
