I was looking for the same exact thing last night, to help me convert Powerpoint slides to PDF format for my online-etraining.com site. I found a tool called PrimoPDF ( http://www.primopdf.com/) which the authors now offer for free. It worked great, and converted all my powerpoint images as well.
It installs itself as a printer, so you print to it from within Powerpoint and it saves the PDF file to your hard drive.
Very nice tool, and even nicer that it's free
