To upload videos to the internet, make streaming videos into swf format would be a better choise since the swf format would be smaller and easier to be viewed by others.

You can use some software to convert your video files with AVI extensions to SWF or FLV format. Here I suggest the best: SWF to Video Converter at sothinkmedia.com. It's really impressible!

I've been using Video To Flash Converter PRO for some years, because it can even generate html code for flash & adds logo.

If you are submitting to YouTube, then you can give them whatever format they take. They will convert it to Flash format anyways.

If you are putting up a video on your own website, then definitely put it up as Flash format since Flash player has the highest penetration rates (ie more browsers have the Flash player).

If you have Flash, then you can use the Macromedia 8 Video encoder to convert avi to flv. Then create a Flash project importing that FLV and publish an swf. Your HTML page will then embed that swf object.

flash has a smaller file size than an .avi, and better quality IMO since you dont have to optimize it very much.
