Did you create these images David? They're very impressive (although the book in the middle pic looks a bit cg).

WowoW .. Hey ! thanks for those comments.. (blush).

Yes 3dStudo max is incredible . It took me a long time to learn this, the learning curve is extremly high, only because they don't know how to teach it correctly, what took me ten hard long frustrating years to learn.. I can now easily teach in 10 days or less.

How about some more.. yes these are all made in 3d studio max 80% of todays games are made in 3d studio max, 3DSMAX outsellls all other 3d programs 3-1

Autodesk offers a 30 day free trial, When the trial is up you must un-install it from your computer. but they never said anything about re-installing it and it will work. again, and again, and again, forever.!

What can I say here. the photo realisitc look is due to 15 lights in this scene.

The "ends" of the decks of cards. This look was achieved by placing a light that only can illuminate the ends of those "rectangles" ONLY. The light is "grey" with "noise" or dirt added.

I love to design Logos for friends and such -=PITDOG]=-

AND OF COURSE,.. .. My virtual "desk" I do use two 21" viewsonic monitors that are truely spectacular, 9 years old amost now. Incredible sharpness and magnificent color rendition.

Lets see if you can guess what I used to do for a "living"? I retired 11 years ago @ age 48 thanks to my photos and photography!

3ds max is good, but what is more important is the talent of the artist. There are other good 3d applications out there but it's the user that creates the art.

I like the way that the light refracts through the glass in the first image, very nice

He's right - i spotted em

I agree - these are very impressive. I focus more on web design than graphic design so this is not a path I am likely to go down but still, its very impressive to look at

Well for what it is worth.. I little tidbit of something I have noticed often, and I am just as guilty.. We often don't take the TIME.. to look .. ..'carefully" There are FOUR dummies books .. I missed one when i first looked, to answer you post. I knew there were some on the lower right hand side. Linux for dummies. That one can easily be "read" and there are two more to the left of that, which are not so easy to read, but there are most recognizable for sure and of course on the top shelf left is Fireworks 4!

I invested thousands of dollars in this collection of books, that was a complete waste of good money. All of this stuff is on line.. and of course now we have Wiki .. .. .. the know all - tell all Authority.. ha ha ha ha !

research now has a 'DIFFERENT" meaning.. RESEARCH USED TO MEAN hard work and study now it means something different. The new meaning of this word now = re-search now is "two clicks"

Hello!

I agree Max is an incredible program, as is LightWave, Soft Image, Rhino, Maya - even down to the mass considered "lowly" Bryce - but I do think there is still work to be done here!!. The book for example, shows no wear and tear, and the pages are uniform, the chess set - I have to be honest, although the render is fine, it lacks focus and correct refraction, Ive seen several tutorials over the years in which the end product looks much the same.

This is photorealism, from KCE Gleghorn (just one of the many 3D artists I would aspire to) - http://www.infinitee-designs.com/KCE.htm - or take a peek through http://artworks.avalonweb.net/

We all need to work harder, learn more and develop our core skills, and this guy? he's just one "who does"...

I have tons to learn about this program.. I have spent 10 long hard years trying to learn.. and I relaized that years ago.. when I saw the pro's and what they could do.. I will never reach that stage..

the chess set in the book was about to be published by New Riders they were very impressed at that when I did it 8 years ago. I am the hardest on my work.. it all sux.. ok.. that is my honest opinion...

it cannot possibly stand up to the works of better professionals out there.. I am a complete rookie in this program.. extremly high hard learning curve for me..

but Houndini, Hash , Truespace, Cinema 4D, InfiniD and so many many more.. are just so fascinating to play in and create..

at no time have i ever hinted that I have 'ARRIVED" i GET SO depressed when I look and study the pro's.. !

I had an internship to disney becasue of what I was able to learn on my own.. but i can't move down there in that heat.. I had to turn down that gracious offer.

thanks for taking the time.!! I like your comments and the links.. thanks!

I wish I could do this kind of stuff. I am no where near talented enough though.
I cant believe you passed up Disney!!! I would love to go there. The heat doesn't bother me though. I hate cold weather more than hot weather.

Anyway, great work! Keep it up!
