In Macromedia Flash, yes you can. Go to
File >> Export >> Export Movie

Then name your file and select from the dropdown menu Animated GIF

I'm using Macromedia Flash MX Pro. I don't see export option from file menu ???

it does have a export function but u can only play swf not edit it u can only edit FLA

The easiest and quickest thing is to use a program called Magic Swf2Gif

Another thing you can do is take a screenshot when the .SWF file is opened, and paste it into paint and narrow it down... I've done it a few times, it works well, just make sure you change the file type from the original .BMP to .GIF or .JPG or whatever the purpose of your image is

I agree, A big Duh on that one. Screenshot is the easiet way unless the SWF had animation and he wanted it to be an animated gif.

I tried the magic swftogif and it worked nicely.

my problem however is that the files are huge (5,50mb)

the original swf i converted it from was 589kb, i set the framerate to 10 frames per second and its still huge.

Does anyone know how to get the gif to a smaller size?

Edit: forgot to mention that the file im trying to convert was imported as a video to macromedia flash
