Before you read this, YES I have converted to SRGB, and all others for that matter. I have a psd file, and all I want is for this to save it for the web the same way it looks in photoshop.

I FINALLY got it to preview in save for web with the correct colors by clicking the triangle and using the document color profile, I saved as gif and thought I was home-free. NOPE. Here is a screenshot showing the file I saved next to the save for web preview! I have the color previewing right in save for web yet it still lightens it up - what is going on?

Try changing your number of colors to 256, the 128 is going to limit the color palette.

Adobe RGB -> sRGB is only an issue when doing your own raw conversions in digital photography, as far as I know. Does Photoshop default to some other color profile on the mac?

It's the number of output colors, you're not allowing enough of them. Your image has more than 128, and to fit, you're clipping similar ones, getting "washed out" or low quality output.
