I'm confused by the Royalty Free licensing for photos. If I am creating a website for a customer and want to use photos under the Royalty Free licenseing, all of the image websites clearly say that RESALE is PROHIBITED. If you want to resell the image, you need an Extended License, which is 30-100 times the cost. I also am prohibited from transferring the license to the website owner.

So do I purchase an Extended License (do you?), do I have the client purchase the image directly from the site, not sure what to do.

Resale isn't the same as using the image in a site. Resale means selling the image itself. You're ok to use it the image in a design with the royalty free license.

If you wanted to sell the image directly you would need the extended license.

Of course do read the the fine print since some sites could vary, but you should be fine using royalty free images in your designs.

Are you sure about that? If you purchase the photo on the web site owner's behalf, if they don't automatically have the license to the image, transferring it is a very different thing than reselling the image ... what you're talking about is legitimate, and what they're trying to avoid is you setting up your own stock agency and selling "bootleg" copies to 10 other people.

It depends on the specific terms where you got the image, but I would think what you're wanting to do is fine.
