hi...problem! (What else is new, huh! )

I made up some templates for a client; they have four basic colors they use: White, red, black and grey. Well, on one template I went a little "outside the box" with a header that has a sunset. The sunset, of course, is in orange. Now several of the board members are saying they really like how different etc., that particular template is, but could I change the orange to red!?

Gulp...I'm not good at all with graphics and do not have the images (there are two that make up the header) in PhotoShop format. Is there a simple means of changing that orange to red in PhotoShop on those JPG's??? Thank you!

You can do it a couple of different ways.
Use a hue/saturation adjustment layer.
Use the Color Replace or Selective Color tool in the Image Adjustments.
You could use a color overlay in the layer styles, but that will color the entire image unless you're good at selection masks to limit where it gets applied.

Say what?!? JK ... I get the idea and will do a little searching on these features -- first will try the color replacer - seems I've dabbled with that in PSP somewhere along the way. Maybe something will click in the old brain...

I did try playing with hue/saturation, but nothing happened -- I probably was doing something wrong though. I'm only at a novice level with PhotoShop.

I was fooling with it the other night but let's just say I made a pretty bad mess out of that poor image that just wouldn't do!

Thanks for the suggestions!

If you get stuck, I'd be happy to do it for you. I'd need at least a sample of the color you want it to be.

Wow, thank you, LadynRed! (Red is my favorite color!).

What I wound up doing is making it grey scale because I had so many problems! The header was spliced and I just couldn't get each piece to match perfectly.

BUT, your advice helped a lot and I dabbled with the hue and saturation and did see how that works -- it's amazing. So it wasn't the fault of that, that's for sure!

And, the end result actually made the client very happy (much to my surprise!) Want to see how it came out? It's just a test layout right now:
http://www.bratcitywebdesign.com/cs/03/index3.html

If you click on any one of the upper right-hand links, you can see the colors it was before. But the board liked the greyscale and frankly, I thought that wound up with a pretty neat effect, too! They used red, grey, black and white on their previous site, so this is in keeping with their original color scheme, too. A bonus! (See the current site at http://www.wicrimestoppers.org -- it's awful LOL!).

Thanks again so much for helping -- which you did, in spite of my end result.

I've been trying to get into a PhotoShop class for 2 years but it's always full. Maybe it's time to get a good book on PhotoShop. Know of any for N00B's??

It looks very good ! Glad you got it worked out Certainly a huge improvement over their old site.

Actually I can highly recommend some really good Photoshop classes, by a wonderful lady: http://www.myjanee.com/classes.htm

She used to teach her classes at www.lvsonline.com, but is now doing them herself. You'll learn a TON of stuff and if you take all of her classes you'll be in pretty good shape

Awesome reference, thanks! And online, too -- that's my style!

I lucked out on this one that they liked the greyscale boy (wipe forehead...lol!)

Thanks again for the assistance!

glad you figured it out.

for future reference, you can sometimes also use the selection tool to select the area of the image you want to adjust, and then go to image/adjustments/color balance to change the colors using the sliders.

You can Change it in different ways.
the easiest way is Use a hue/saturation adjustment layer.
go to Image/ Adjustment/Hue-saturation/
adjust Hue= -37, Saturation = 0, lightness = 0
thats it.
