WHo here has made the switch to strict XHTML? Do you think it is nessesary?
It's such a pain being strict. I can't get pages to work with the XHTML definition. Who is good at this?

In the light of XHTML 2.0 on the horizon, the W3C recommends people move from HTML to XHTML, even if this is just to XHTML 1.0 Transitional, so that when XHTML 2 is launched, you can transfer over onto it easily - you really don't want to be left behind with this!

Exactly. And therefore, xhtml only enforce what is considered like "best practices", and if you don't apply them already, you'd better start now.

I know html5 is coming, but I truly believe that the path is going more and more toward the information only, ie XML.
Every service, sites, widget trying to integrate into other sites, and the only path to integrate so many not-interconnected elements is to have a solid base.

I think that xml, and by extent xhtml, should be that base.
I don't say you should validate every pages you have, but at least try to work toward a xhtml transitional at least.

I agree, if your not using xhtml now, you really should get into it, before you are left behind. Thats just my opinion thou, i gues if you have a site in html and its validated, and it looks fine in firefox and ie and its attracting people then you may be able to get away with it. I gues its down to how you feel about changing over.

Yep it's just good practice to switch over now before the differences between XHTML 2.0 and HTML get bigger and the changeover is harder

My personal opinion is if you're charging people money to code for them and not using x-strict, you're in the wrong business. Sort of like going to My Cousin Vinnie, the one who used to eat lead paint chips, for tax accounting advice.

I've been coding to XHTML Strict for a couple of years. I DO think it's necessary, it forces you to use proper code and not be lazy and loosey-goosey with your coding.

However, HTML 4.01 Strict is also acceptable.
