Tables and JavaScript

So I created a menu that i am happy with. It's a JavaScript file, which i keep in a folder, and it looks and works great. The only drawback is that if you bold something, it applies to the whole menu; header and sub menu items. I want to keep the sub menu items normal and the menu headers bold. So i thought "okay, easy solution" - remove the headers and just type them bold into a table. When i removed the headers in the javascript file, everything worked great. i moused over the headers (which were now not there), and the sub menu items dropped down exactly as planned. So i typed the bold headers into a table where the menu appears, pressed "Preview in Browser" in my Dreamweaver app, and low and behold, the header in the table appeared, but only for an instant and then disappeared behind the javascript menu. SHucks!! So my question is, is there a way to make the javascript menu appear below tabled content? I tried right-clicking on the little javascript icon in dreamweaver to see if there was some sort of option for "appearing above, or below, ect" but didn't find. Need help.
