I have dot5hosting.com hosting my site I am building. When I upload the .index file everything works fine, but when I try to link anything from the index page, I get a download link for the website.

For example:

http://df29.dot5hosting.com:8080/pan...uddcontact.php

When I go to this website, I get a 'download' link, instead of actually viewing the page. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen? Please help.

Thanks.

k umm that link redirects us to login, but what do you mean .index file? you mean index.html or index.php, it won't work unless it has either extension after the name of the file.

Sorry about that, yea that is a page I uploaded in the ftp section. Anything I upload to the FTP manager makes me download the file when I link to it. In other words, I cant view the page, it makes me download it. Everything does this besides the index.html.

i think i know what is the problem. you are trying to view from within your cpanel (or vDeck panel in your case i think). the link you gave us here is useless because we don't have access to this panel, that is why people who click that link are redirected to the vDeck login page.

try to to view your page without :8080 --> http://df29.dot5hosting.com/ and whatever your page is called

Its happening even when I take out the 8800. Yes its setup for php, buts its doing the same thing with jpegs, and .html files. Its prompts me to 'download' the file instead of viewing it in the browser. I usually use yahoo, and when I upload a simple HTML file, it just gives me a link like this.

www.website.com/about.html

about.html would be the file I uploaded.

When I upload to this domain it gives me this crazy long URL.

Any more ideas? This is really, odd. There is no way to link from page to page.

Maybe the problem I comprehend is a configure problem.
YOUR computer configure has a great error of configure.
I can view it very well!
Try to change your configure to solve this problem!

If I understand what I think you are saying.

I think you are uploading your files to the wrong place. I am not familiar with vdeck at all. For the following control panels your public files go in these folders.
cPanel = public_html
plesk = httpdocs
lxadmin = www

Another common name is htdocs.

Some hosting companies force you to the right place and others make you transfer to the proper place.

If you still haven't got this figured out change your password and send me the login info via PM and I will figure it out for you.

If any using vdeck posts the proper directory, that is all you need.

try to upload an index.php file and/or remove the default index.html file. If you don't see the index.php after that in your browser you are uploading the files to a wrong directory. as vdesk is based on cpanel the directory should be html_public or www. You also can try the support of your hosting company
