What is a simple, easy way to make site wide navigation

Hi,
I have a HTML coded site. I am updating the navigation and want to have one file that is included in all pages, so I can update one file and have the navigation updated on all pages.

I have done this before using javascript "include", but it's really difficult breaking a complicated html table (the navigation) into the multiple "print" lines in a javascript file.

Is there an easier way to create site wide navigation?

Thanks,
George

A good way to do this is with server side includes (SSIs).
You might want to take a look at this link: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/beyond/we...le.php/3473341

That is really, really close to what I need. The only problem is that I have some PHP coding on about half of the pages. So half of them have .php extensions and half have .html extensions. I was able to make the SSI work for .shtml files, but not for .html or .php.

Any suggestions on how to work around that or another way to do it?

You can modify your .htaccess file to parse html pages along with your php pages. let me do some looking to find a link on how to do this. I have done it before, but it always gets a little confusing for me.

Stephanie ... I found this useful, too, and tried to give you some tp for the reference. Did it make it through?
