Hi all,

This is my first post here so if I'm asking something stupid or posting in the wrong form, feel free to set me straight.

What I'm trying to do is probably simpler than I'm making it out to be, but because I don't normally add Flash to my site designs, I'm a bit stumped on the best way to achieve the desired results. I'm hoping that someone here can confirm my suspicion that my only option might be to use iFrames, but let's see...

What I have is this:
A site comprised of 4 basic HTML pages with a Flash movie header (with music) at the top, and 4 menu buttons under the header that link to each of the 4 pages.

My dilemma:
When a visitor clicks on a button to navigate from page to page, as the new page loads it also reloads the Flash movie at the top, starting it from the beginning and thus re-starting the music from the beginning as well.

What I want to achieve:
I'd like the Flash movie header to play contiguously while the user navigates from page to page, so that the Flash movie/music just keeps moving right along and not reloading.

My guess:
My best guess is that the only way I can achieve this is by breaking the site down into just 1 HTML page, and have each of the buttons load a different iframe embedded in the content section below the header and menu.

My questions:
Am I wrong about that?
Is there a better way?

Any / all advice and opinions are welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you for any attempt at all to help resolve my dilemma!

I think so.

AJAX probably would work also, but I'm not an expert on that... There is probably a way in Flash to record how far you had got in the music, and then to go to that point, but it would be too complicated to mention.

It all depends which you prioritise: no iframes or music.

Welcome to WMT

In all reality you can't do it by having separate pages. You could use Ajax to load in new content on the same page as Foundationflash suggested, but this won't necessarily do you any favours if search engine listing are important to you. Even using the Ajax method you'd shut out the 10% or so users who don't have Javascript enabled so you'd have to make static pages for them if you didn't want to lose them - catch22! IFrames would be a possible solution for your page content but again not good for search engine listings.

Music/sound of any sort is a major click off for me and I would guess most visitors.

Use it sparingly I'd say and never auto-play.

As for a solution - as mentioned ajax is your best bet. Ajax is now a mainstay of most new Web 2.0 sites and the % of non-js enabled users is pretty low (can't be discounted though).

"Use it sparingly I'd say and never auto-play."

I hate to contradict you, but like a said on another thread, it's all about what visitors expect - no-one complains about music on online games, which always autoplays.

With modern broadband and no tacky effects, I'm sure there is place for sound in Web 3.0
