Bandwidth Selection Page

Hey all,

I need to add a bandwidth selection page to my site. I have some people overseas with only 10-20k dial-up and need to get a cup of coffee, and watch a tv program before my site loads.

I need help with coding it in a way where it will store a cookie that remember's the person's choice when they come back... OR

Is there a way to auto direct overseas IP's to the low speed site?

I have no idea where to start.. Thanks guys.

You could find out their general IP Adress range and then redirect them. Here's how you can get someone's IP in PHP:

Code:
$ipAddress = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
Then you could run a check to see if they're in range xx.xx.*, and if they are direct them to the low bandwidth site.

You dont necessarily need to discriminate based on region though. Just make an opening splash page and make it say something to the affect "Choose Quick-Load Page or Full Multimedia Page."

You dont see that as much as you use to when flash and stuff were still new, but its an option. And then if you want to save cookies you can do that too, but you are in the wrong forum for that, move on over to the PHP forum. That will take a bit of PHP knowledge so you might want to read up on that first.

Alternatively,

You could optimise the site to load quicker.
