Allowing all users, with one password using .htaccess

Hello

I've built a site that uses FlashChat. One page has a list of rooms. One of the rooms has asked that i password protect so that not anyone can enter. So I did using cpanel's 'password protect directory'. When the .htaccess file was created, it listed one user and one password. (the user and password i was asked when creating.)

Since the resource I'm protecting has multiple users, can I use a wildcard in the .htaccess file so that ANY user and ONE password will be accepted? And if so, would that wildcard be * ?

I was not sure if posting in PHP or HTML was correct, so I've posted here.

I'm not sure about that. Do you really need more than one user name?

For sure more than one user can can use the same name and password. You can just change what you have to something like member/password.

There are also some inexpensive scripted php solutions out there that will allow each member to have a unique name/password.

The protected resource is one install of FlashChat, so there are numerous users. Right now, I'll instruct them to all use the same username/pass. Once they get past that though, Flashchat asks for a username at it's login.

I believe I better ask about this in FlashChat's forum as well. Their login is handled with php, so maybe they have a solution specific to flashchat.

Where would I find the scripts your talking about though? I'm wanting to have a look at them.

Thanks for the reply, nice forum you guys have here.
