I have read about a lot of people just using notepad for their html editing.....how do you actually use this and make it your website?

Notepad is an OK tool for those with a knowledge of HTML. I recommend you get an editor designed specifically for HTML - like VanGogh recommended HTML-Kit, maybe try Coffee Cup or VIM if you want something a bit more robust.

Once you have your web pages designed, you use Filezilla to upload them to your server using FTP (file transfer protocol).

A good place for you to start picking up some of the basics would be www.w3schools.com

Have fun

I use notepad because it is simple to use. To use it, what you would do is enter the HTML code and then save the page has an html file. For example mypage.html.

Once you have saved the file you can preview it by opening up the html page in a web browser. You be able to see how things are going to look once they are uploaded. Just be sure to refresh the page after you make changes.

If you close the page and want to reopen it to make changes, just right-click on the page and where it says "Open With" select Notepad.

Afterwards use an FTP program to upload the pages to your web host.

Well when you've done typing in the code, you save it as filename.html, and instead of how the little drop down menu gives you the option of .txt, select All Files.

I prefer using Dreamweaver instead. You can write HTML there as well.
