I've been working for more than an hour trying to get the search box in the upper left corner of my site looking right in both IE and FF to no avail.

The site is here: www.icdmeister.com/site/

I want the search box and button at the place they're shown in FF - with the search box shifted to the right a bit. And I want the "Advanced Search" text and button to be positioned how it appears in IE7. I can't get both pieces to look right in both browsers at the same time. Thought I'd stop pulling my hair out and see if anyone more experienced (which is probably all of you) could point me in the right direction.

Any tips would be very welcome!

Thanks,

Andrew

You have tag soup. Firefox is rendering it incorrectly based on your code, which is no surprise given it has poor CSS form handling (worse than IE). If you check your site in Opera you'll see that IE isn't the only one being confused.

May I also suggest you learn HTML/CSS so that you don't produce table layouts?

Thanks for the feedback. I agree the tags are a mess. I tried to get in there to make some fixes and don't know if I made it better or worse. But I guess if it's properly coded that's never a concern.

Yeah, it looks like Opera's not displaying it well either. I'm going to get some help to reformat the layout.

Question Mooofasa - You suggest I learn HTML/CSS so I can avoid table layouts (which I agree would be worthwhile) but you also state that FF has worse CSS form handling that IE. If I migrate to all HTML/CSS does that mean my designs will be poorly rendered on FF? Or does FF do fine with properly coded CSS and just have problems with tag soup?

It's not that straight forward. Each browser is compliant to the standards to their own degree. Firefox and the other "compliant" browsers will mess up if faced with tag soup more often than with CSS issues, whereas IE6< will just mess up.
