Hello

Can anyone help me please. I would like visitors to my webpage to be able to click a 'country' flag, i.e spanish and when they have clicked the flag my website will be translated into their language.

Can anyone help me out.... I have seen this on many websites but cannot find out how to do it.

Thanks a lot

The flags are generally just links to pages in the other language. It's not a script or anything that's translating. First you need to have your content translated and then use the flags to link to the different versions.

Even if you can find a script to translate a page it's going to be mostly useless. You can't really translate a language algorithmically since most of the meaning gets lost. If you really want to have pages in another language hire someone who speaks both and can competently create the translated text. Then add the link so if someone enters the English version of your site and wants Spanish instead they can click to the Spanish version of the content.

There are companies that provide dynamic on-the-fly translation but they are expensive - and that's an understatement! I believe the last time I researched them it was around $3000/month for 500-1000 words.

YOu can not get proper translation. if you a script it will create a mess. I would suggest to spend some money on translation services and to get your content in a good shape.

I wouldn't ever pay to have my content translated on the fly with an algorithm. You can't translate things word for word. There might be a corresponding word in the other language, but the meaning of the words won't necessarily be the same. It really takes someone who knows both languages well to translate. Sometimes the rights words aren't the literal translation, but another word that carries the closest meaning.

Lets say the sites in German. I might want to read it whether or not its translated well... Its better than not being able to read it at all.

The easiest way would be to link to Google Translate, you can even specify a link like this one

google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webmaster-talk.com%2F&langpair=en%7Csp&hl=en&ie=UTF8

URL to translate
Original Language
Destination Language

You can find the language codes by testing differnt sites and just looking at the address bar

That works fine if you want to get a general sense of what a page is about, but it doesn't work when it comes to persuading someone to subscribe to your blog or buy something or even to have them truly understand what's being said.

I've translated pages to read them, but I wouldn't interact with those pages in a meaningful way. If your a site owner and want to present content in another language you need to hire someone write the translation.
