Hi,

I'm using a one colum, fixed, centered header and footer Dreamweaver template to create a very simple site with a banner across the top and a horizontal navigation bar below.

On each page (below the nav bar) there will be a heading, a photo and some text.

I want the photo to float to the left of the text. However, when I add padding to the photo so that it isn't right up against the text....it seems to "push out" or expand the container in IE. I see a little gap there to the right of the banner as if the container just got larger. This isn't happening in Firefox...where the banner goes all the way to the edge of the container.

Any ideas about how to fix it?

Thank you.

I just realized the problem. The banner across the top is an image and the padding is being applied to it as well. I fixed the problem by creating a class for images within the text areas.

However, why was it happening only in IE and not Firefox?

Apparently, IE isn't worth using, regardless of the fact that so many people use it, and have used it for years. But none of that is as important as Web2.0, the web standard that isn't standard in all browsers.

I suggest you start reading about ALLLLLLLL the bugs in IE :
www.positioniseverything.net

IE6 and below are so far off the standards it's a royal pain to deal with. IE7 is a bit better, but still has some problems.

Yes, I've only barely started with web design and I'm already cursing IE.
