Hey I'm in need of some help! Anyone know somethings about either FTP files or Godaddy.com? I have a account on Goddady.com and I'm trying to host my site but it is telling me i need it to be in FTP files which I'm not getting. I read the tutorial thing they had about changing it throught Internet Explorer but it apparently didn't work because it only mested it up.... I really could use some help any one got any ideas?

On GoDaddy you will need to set up an FTP account in order to FTP your files.

I would suggest you download FileZilla to FTP.

You will not find a finer FTP Client.

An FTP program (client) works like having two windows explorer windows open at the same time and then moving files from one window to another. The difference is you are moving the files from your computer to your hosting account.

I have experience with GD. You have enough information to get started and one of us will try to help you when you have a question. Your files will be place into the folder you login to at GD. Ignore anything you read about changing to the public_html directory as that is for cPanel only.

I had tryed doing the one for IE because it said you can changed them via that but I've done that over and over again and it doesn't do anything as far as I know and I'm not sure what else to do. I'll look into that http://filezilla-project.org/ one for right now. If I use that though or if the other way works but im just doing it wrong do i have to set up another account thing with godaddy? I'm doing this for my school so I'm on a limited budget thing.

yes there is ftp files in your control page

You set an FTP user up under your existing GoDaddy account. Go into your domain's control panel at godaddy, open the Settings area, and click on the Manage FTP Users icon. Then add an FTP user.

godaddy requires you to set up the ftp user before you can add files to your webspace? that's crazy! i've heard they're a pretty bad route for webhosting. i've used them for domain registration though and have been pleased.

Since it's for a high school, you might want to get one of the students to help out. I'd bet quite a few of them have their own sites and are experienced enough to help you out.

Godaddy automatically crates an FTP account for you to use. It should be the same as your login to godaddy's website. However, they allow you to setup more FTP users. So you should be able to upload files to your site without setting any FTP settings.

Ragdoll1607, you need to download an FTP program. Then, when you install and setup that FTP program, you can put your webpage name, user name, and password into the program. Then you can upload your files. Many people suggested firezilla and I think it would be a good FTP program to look into.
