I've done this using tables for an email campaign.

But one of the things that is puzzeling me is that the left column should have no gap between the tittle and date. The white background should be continuous down that column. But i've tried everything Iand I still cannot figure it out.

Anyone know a good way to do this?

I need to stick with tables for email compatiability.

You don't appear to have much in the way of styling for your tables, I suggest you start there.

Some CSS is fine in a lot of clients, it's not so much "stripped out" as just ignored because the rendering engine just isn't up to it.

You have to think in terms of HTML3.2 / HTML4.0 and CSS1 for the majority of clients. With webmail users you could be more "adventurous" as they are using a browser to render the message.
