Different result in firefox and IE?

I don't know if this is the right section to post this in so I don't mind if any mod move it or something.

I have recently coded a small splash page for my band's homepage since it crashed. The purpose of it is to have a place to post news, videos and songs while we look for someone to do a new design.

Problem is, it looks the way I want it perfectly fine in Firefox but not in Internet Explorer. The tables doesn't align properly in IE.

Have a look in both browsers and see for yourself. Is there a solution to this?
And why does it behave this way?

You have to code it such that both IE and Fire Fox show the same thing, this is a headache in the industry. Be wary of FF3 too. It also shows results that is different from FF2. My designers are having a headache over it.

That would be your biggest mistake - using tables for layout

In honor of table-based layouts, I will now dress like a pirate, and dance on the table.

Arrrrrgh!

I have never really learned to do this in any other way than with tables.
I'm always happy to learn though. How else would you do it?

FF is w3c standard, and IE is using their stuff...actually i have tried using <table> on both browser and no prob. Most likely it is something to do with your css incase you are using one...

IE is still the LEAST standards-compliant browser out there. IE6 and below - awful. IE7 is better, but still not there yet. IE8 SHOULD be a huge improvment.

when do you suspect IE8 will be released? and, What the heck are tables?

Can someone give me an example?

I hear a lot of people, especially Wayfarer07, saying never to use 'em
