I have downloaded a web template, which comes complete with the PSD.

I have opened the PSD in Photoshop, and edited the text I wish to edit, main links etc.

I then clicked File > Save For Web >

The slices then show on the template, and are all correct.

I then choose save, and then save over the op of the old HTML and replace the images.

When I open the Index.HTML after saving, the template is all dodgy and everything is out of place.

What am I doing wrong.

Appreciaite any help, and if you need to know anything else to help then please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Basically, the fil I downloaded includes.

PSD
Website Folder

Open > Website Folder
within this:

Images : Index.html

I opened it when I downloaded it and loved the layout.

So I then opened PSD

PSD > Index.PSD

I then edited the content text to make it fit with my website.

e.g. Changed Artists to Producers.

Then I clicked File > Save For Web

The slices all show correctly, and the website is automatically sliced in all the right places.

So I pres Save.

I then save the file over the top of the original Index.HTML I downloaded.

I then click OK to replace all the images in the images folder.
(These images havn't changed one bit, so its basically saving the same images over the older images)

I then Open Website Folder > Index.HTML

and the page is all messed up.

Spaces all over, fonts gone huge.

I have installed all the fonts thats came with the website.

I am lost, please help

If you haven't changed the images at all, then instead of modifying your PSD, you could try modifying the index.html that came with your download.

Sounds to me like maybe using good old fashion photo bucket would give you a valid code. You can always upload the image to your server (if you have one) then open the file destination and view the page source to gain the HTML Code.

You can't have one big image as a web page. Websites are done with scripting, not image editing.

That is if I understand what you're talking about, which I'm not the only one trying to understand here.

Well if you sliced it up in photoshop 99% of the time it will come out as planned.. until you add the content. :-P Photoshop is worthless when it comes to coding your layouts. Try deleting all of the files that you saved with photoshop ( slices / html ) Reslice your layout and then save it for web as html / images. It should come out right. But watch out the coding in photoshop uses tables! ....... So basically saving it as html is worthless load of junk taking up your hd space.

Try saving the images only. Start with a new copy of the .psd template and index.html file.
1.Open the PSD
2. edit your images
3. click "save for web..."
4. When you are saving for web, and the box comes up asking you what you want your file to be called, you have the option to Save the images only - no html, just the images. Try saving just the images.

Like others have said - using Photoshop's generated HTML is a bad idea. Hopefully, the person who created your template knew this. If you save the images, and leave the html alone, the layout shouldn't get messed up. Also, unless you are editing the entire template, I would just save the images you changed. When you are in the save for web window, you can ctrl+click (cmd + click on mac) on the different slices you want to save.
