Ok, this is really confusing, I'm not sure what the problem is...

When I visit the site I'm in the process of making it will display fine in Firefox, Netscape & Safari. When I visit the site in IE 7, my slices are not aligned properly and my drop down menu navigation using CSS & Javascript won't work. Here's the link:

http://www.classicengraving.org/New%.../layoutv7.html

I'm not an expert but know mainly HTML and some CSS. Can anyone help me pinpoint the problem?

Thanks.

the code is thoroughly messed up

you have a <html> and <head> section with a style sheet before the DTD

I cleaned up the code a little but it probably needs more work. I'm new to Dreamweaver and am trying to learn that as well as CSS and Javascript. I think part of the problem is pasting the QuickMenu code into my document. I'm not sure how necessary some of the code is. Even if I clean the code up, will it display properly in IE 7? Any tips, hints, pointers, etc?

There is now. I could curse Dreamweaver for changing some of my code...it was adding XML codes where some of my html codes were. Maybe I need to change something under preferences. Anyway, is there even a slight possibility to get the code to work in IE 7? I don't understand why it displays perfectly in Safari, Netscape, and Firefox yet not in IE. Grrrrrrrr!

Before you even start to debug this page, you need to be aware of the validation issues: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...Flayoutv7.html

I actually was using Dreamweaver's validation & I do get this message alot: The tag:"td" is not allowed within: "ul" It is only allowed within: .[HTML 4.0]

How can I get my slices, or tables, to work with my drop down menu? Is there another code I could use instead?

Can someone please explain why IE 7 won't display my site correctly before I pull my hair out!?! Grrr! I've completely started over again & haven't added all the drop down menu nav just yet...only added the "about us" part. I checked code validation in Dreamweaver & got this message: No errors or warnings found.[HTML 4.0]. I went to the Markup Validation and just received a message about displaying an ALT tag which isn't all that necessary for me. Here's the link to my site: http://www.classicengraving.org/New%20Layout%208/layoutv9.html

Help please!

Is the drop down menu under "about us" working for you? I've checked it on 2 of my computers & nothing happens when I mouse over the "about us" image.

I sort of found my problem. Something about a Z Index Bug in IE 6 & 7. Here's the link: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/communi...tid=ZINDEX_BUG

Does anyone know the solution to this? Adobe doesn't have one.

I haven't looked closely at your code, but here is a link that explains the IE z-index bug. You must avoid this situation in order to avoid the bug: http://therealcrisp.xs4all.nl/meuk/IE-zindexbug.html

Ahhhhhhhhhhh! I'm sooooo frustrated!! I tried editing out the z-index code where it says "QuickMenu Core CSS [Do Not Modify!] " I removed all the z-index references & yet it still doesn't work in IE 7 but it works in Firefox. I also ran a browser compatiabliltiy check in Dreamweaver and it's not complaining about the z-index anymore. So why won't it work?!?! Again the link is: http://www.classicengraving.org/New%.../layoutv9.html

Well, removing z-index probably wasn't the solution anyway. You might want to read up on IE's buggy z-indexing and possible solutions here:

Thanks for the link. I pasted the conditional comments into the head of my code like it said to do. I also put the z-index code back in where it was supposed to be originally. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same problem of the drop down navigation not showing up. Does someone want to look at my code and see if they can figure this out. It's driving me nuts!!!

I was able to apply a fix to my drop down code. However, now my slices aren't lining up correctly in Firefox. Solutions, suggestions anyone?
