I've got a background image for the main body area that has 1 MB after saving it as png. I think that may be a problem for some until it fully loads.
I also saved it as a GIF and it has around 439kb but some of the shades are gone since this is an old paper image which size is around 600*800 px.
Should i use the Low Src and point to the gif image until it fully loads on everyones computer? OR should i split the png image into let's say 5 pieces since it's on the main body area?

can't use a jpeg since i need a transparent background for the image.

i've just finished the photoshop design for the website and i am coding it now...i'll try a png image size program or use the Low Src and point to the gif...the gif isn't so bad i guess

well you could post a screenshot of the PS design or export it as a jpeg for us to view?

Is there any way you can slice it and have it tile vertically ?? 1MB is just waaaay too big.
