I once placed an image with absolute psition inside and on top of another image, the positioning coords were relative to the enclosing image. I need to do it again and I cannot for the life of me remember how! I believe I used <span> not sure. Can someone help me out?

If I understand you correctly, you want to overlap one picture over another picture exactly with absolute positioning?

I believe the picture I placed it on top of was a background image of an element. The overlying images positioning was relative to the parent.

You would have had to wrap both elements in a <div> or other wrapper that has a position of "relative". Then, if the wrapping div is given the same dimensions as the image, any absolutely positioned element within it would behave as if it was relative to the image.

Actually, if you put the first image in as a background on the div, then positioning wouldn't be necessary, you just put the image you want 'on top' into the div in the HTML, and float it, adjusting margins/padding as needed to put it where you want it.

That's a good idea, if I were you I'd do that instead.
