I am designing a site that reads the pages based upon sequential ordering. They want me to use page 1 is 010, page 2 is 020, page 3 is 030....

How do I number the 10th page? Normally I would list 001, 002 to 10 which is 010?

But that is not available after using 010 for the number one.

THank you for the help.

Hi

I am no expert on programming or anything so if this is over simplistic I appologise.

I am assuming the 010 (one) and 010 (ten) are to display pages on the actal site and to catalogue the pages. Can you not have the site count the numbers(pages) normaly (1 to 10 etc) and then insert the preceeding zero after the site has counted the pages? use one variable for the actual count (indexng) and a second with the count + a leading "0" for displaying on the page?

Remember also not to use this numbering system as part of your filenames eg. 0010_index.html, 0020_introduction.html etc as this makes your pages harder to index via the search engines. Some might even penalize you if not skip your pages totally and not indexing them at all.
Totally and utterly way off the mark.

It will make absolutely no difference at all to search engines.

Avoiding spaces is good advice and keeping filenames in all lower case is a reasonable way to avoid *nix case sensitivity problems.

But not starting filenames with a number is a bit of an oddity, but then anyone who claims to be a developer, then uses the phrase "alt text tags" loses credibility straight away.

Human visitors may be put off by the numbers, although few people look at the URL anymore. At least apart from "should I visit this link?" Search engines don't care.
