Hi,

I stumbled across a product on the net which said that it would protect my html code, stop people viewing it, disable various things in my browser etc. I am a little dubious as I know many ways myself to get around these things and some of the disabling features are pointless half the time, but having said that id like to find out other peoples opinions and views and maybe recommendations.

Is there is any need to try to protect html code using these kinds of software? Does anyone bother and if they do, do they find it successful - or is it a waste of time?

It's a complete waste of time, unless you're the one marketing that "fine" product. There are lots of ways to fiddle with browsers, like disabling the right click, for instance, which is also a waste of time and an annoyance. Many sites try that one to "protect" images, but anyone who wants to take your image or view your source code will. In the case of image protection, watermarking is one of the best choices. In the case of "protecting" your source code, why are you bothering?

I too agree with serandfae, there is no need of protecting html codes, and its rather just a waste.

Lets make something perfectly clear, if its HTML anyone can get to it. Sure you can get some protection but in the end the anyone can get to this code.

Even if the source were somehow masked, which it really can't totally be, a browser loads the page and cache's it. Its in the cache automatically. So you can get it there. Furthermore, google has a cache of virtually every site. You can go and get it there. Then there is the intern's WAY BACK MACHINE, you can get it there too, maybe even an old version of your site, check it out, its pretty cool.

Some scripts you can protect, but HTML, no way, not totally. If you want to protect it, you need to write it totally in a script that can be protected with like ioncube or sourceguardian or something, but STILL, it needs to be coverted back to something close to show to the browser.

take care!

Although I totally agree with the sentiments above, one day, when I was bored, I invented this: Encrypted HTML. It is easy to break the code, do you see a way?

BTW, I've seen some of those software packages you mention. I've been able to get by their methods in a matter of seconds.

The question is, why do you think you need to at all ??
Even if I can't see your HTML, I could effectively copy your design on my own - I don't need your code to do it

Sometimes I wish people WOULD copy my HTML, that way I know I'm doing things in a way that others desire

Hi

All have their own opinions. I think you r a fresh web designer, You don't want to share your knowledge with anyone. That's not a nice thinking. knowledge is for sharing. you are here bcz you want to know your answer if we not giving you answer then what will you feel?

And i have a BIG NO for your Q.
